What's Covered

Liability Insurance protects your business against claims from third parties for injury, property damage, or professional error. Public Liability covers claims arising from your business premises or operations. Products Liability covers harm caused by something you manufactured or sold. Workmen's Compensation and Employer's Liability cover injury to your own staff, and Medical Malpractice covers claims against healthcare professionals for treatment errors.

Who Needs It

Any UAE business that interacts with the public, employs staff, manufactures or sells products, or provides professional or medical services carries liability exposure. Workmen's Compensation is a legal requirement for all UAE employers, and many commercial contracts require proof of public liability cover before work can begin.

Why Go Through Al Berwaz

Al Berwaz compares liability cover across leading UAE insurers to match your policy limits and terms to your actual business risk. We help you meet contractual insurance requirements and support you through claims if a third party brings a case against your business.

Got questions? We've got answers

Straight answers to what business owners and contractors ask us most about liability and workmen's compensation insurance in the UAE.

Ask Us a Question

+

Is workmen's compensation insurance mandatory in the UAE?

UAE labour law makes every employer legally responsible for compensating employees who are injured, fall ill or die because of their work, whether or not the employer is at fault. The law doesn't name one specific insurance product, but most free zones, licensing authorities and client contracts expect it, and without it the employer pays these costs directly. In practice, almost every business carries it.

+

What's the difference between workmen's compensation and employer's liability?

Workmen's compensation covers the compensation employers must pay under UAE labour law for work-related injury, illness or death. Employer's liability covers claims beyond that, such as when an injured employee sues the company for negligence. The two are usually combined in one policy.

+

What's the difference between public liability and workmen's compensation?

Workmen's compensation covers your own employees. Public liability covers everyone else, such as customers, visitors or members of the public, if your business activities injure them or damage their property. Most businesses need both.

+

What does products liability insurance cover?

Products liability covers claims if a product you make, supply or sell causes injury or property damage. It's important for manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers, since the liability can follow the product long after it's sold.

+

Do tenders and contracts require liability insurance?

Very often, yes. Government entities, developers and large companies usually require contractors and suppliers to hold public liability and workmen's compensation cover at set limits before signing a contract or awarding a tender. We can arrange cover that matches the exact contract wording.

+

What is medical malpractice insurance?

Medical malpractice insurance covers doctors, clinics and hospitals against claims that their treatment caused a patient harm through error or negligence. It pays legal defence costs and compensation, and healthcare regulators in the UAE generally require licensed professionals to hold it.

+

How is the premium for liability insurance calculated?

It depends on the cover. Workmen's compensation is usually priced either per employee or as a percentage of your annual wageroll, depending on the type of work your staff do. Public and products liability are usually based on your turnover, business activity and the limit of cover you choose. Your claims history also affects the price.
