What's Covered

Travel Insurance covers emergency medical treatment and evacuation while abroad, reimbursement if your trip is cancelled or cut short, compensation for lost, delayed, or damaged baggage, and cover for significant flight or travel delays. Most policies can be bought as a single-trip or annual multi-trip policy, depending on how often you travel.

Who Needs It

Anyone travelling outside the UAE for leisure or business benefits from travel cover, since medical treatment abroad can be extremely costly and isn't covered by your UAE health insurance. Frequent travellers often find an annual multi-trip policy more cost-effective than buying single-trip cover each time.

Why Go Through Al Berwaz

Al Berwaz compares travel insurance across leading UAE insurers to match cover to your destination, trip length, and travel frequency, so you know exactly what you're covered for before you go.

Straight answers to what UAE residents ask us most about travel insurance.

Ask Us a Question

+

Is travel insurance mandatory for UAE residents?

Not for most trips, but some destinations require it. Schengen visa applications, for example, require travel medical insurance with at least €30,000 of cover. Even when it isn't required, it protects you from medical bills abroad that can be extremely expensive.

+

Does my UAE health insurance cover me when I travel?

Usually only partly. Many UAE health plans limit cover abroad to emergencies, or don't include it at all on basic plans. Travel insurance fills that gap and also covers non-medical problems like cancellations and lost baggage.

+

What does travel insurance cover?

Typically emergency medical treatment and evacuation, trip cancellation or cutting a trip short, lost or delayed baggage, travel delays and personal liability. Limits and extras vary between plans, so it's worth comparing before you buy.

+

Should I choose single-trip or annual cover?

Single-trip cover suits one-off holidays. If you travel two or three times a year or more, annual multi-trip cover is usually better value and saves you buying a new policy every time.

+

Are pre-existing medical conditions covered?

Often not automatically. Many policies exclude pre-existing conditions unless you declare them and the insurer accepts them, sometimes for an extra premium. Always declare them when applying so you're not caught out when making a claim.

+

Are adventure activities like skiing or diving covered?

Not always. Many standard policies exclude higher-risk activities, but you can often add cover for them. If you're planning something like skiing or scuba diving, make sure it's included before you go.

+

When should I buy travel insurance?

As soon as you book your trip. That way, cancellation cover protects you if something forces you to cancel before you leave, such as illness or a family emergency.
