What's Covered

Private Motor Insurance protects your car against accidental damage, fire, and theft, and covers your legal liability for injury or damage caused to other people or their property. Comprehensive policies also cover your own vehicle's repair costs, while third-party-only policies cover just the legal minimum. Optional extras include personal accident cover, roadside assistance, and agency repair.

Who Needs It

Every registered vehicle owner in the UAE is legally required to hold at least third-party motor insurance. Most drivers choose comprehensive cover to protect against the real cost of accidents, theft, and repairs, especially for newer or higher-value vehicles.

Why Go Through Al Berwaz

Straight answers to what drivers ask us most about car insurance in Abu Dhabi and across the UAE.

Ask Us a Question

+

Is car insurance mandatory in the UAE?

Yes. Every car registered in the UAE must have valid motor insurance, at least third-party liability, before it can be registered or renewed. Most drivers choose comprehensive cover to protect their own car as well.

+

What's the difference between third-party and comprehensive car insurance?

Third-party cover pays for injury or damage you cause to other people and their property, but not for damage to your own car. Comprehensive cover includes third-party liability and also covers your own car against accidental damage, fire and theft.

+

What's the difference between agency repair and garage repair?

With agency repair, your car is repaired at the manufacturer's authorised dealer using original parts. With garage repair, it's repaired at an approved independent workshop. Agency repair costs more and is usually only available for newer cars.

+

Does my car insurance cover me in Oman?

Not automatically. Many UAE car insurance policies offer Oman cover as an extension, which may be included or available for an extra premium. Check that it's on your policy before driving across the border.

+

What affects the price of my car insurance?

The main factors are your age and driving experience, the car's make, model and value, the level of cover, whether you choose agency or garage repair, and your claims history. Drivers under 25 generally pay a higher premium.

+

Can I get a discount if I haven't made any claims?

Yes. Many insurers offer a lower premium if you can show a claims-free history, usually with a no-claims letter from your previous insurer. Ask your current insurer for this letter before you switch.

+

What should I do after a car accident?

Make sure everyone is safe and call the police on 999 if anyone is injured. For any insurance claim, you'll need a police report, so always report the accident. Then contact us, and we'll guide you through the claim with your insurer.
